I Picked My Fabric for My Cheater’s Sampler Quilt

Cheater’s Sampler Quilt Video – Episode 1

I’ve been going nuts trying to decide what kind of fabric I wanted for my Cheater’s Sampler Quilt.  I don’t have time right now to go shopping for a particular fabric theme.  Instead, I forced myself to pick from fabric I already have.

I have a bunch of fabric that features big decorative stripes that can be fussy cut into very unusual blocks or strips.  I was going to cut all this fabric and sell as fussy cut quilt blocks, but I quickly discovered that fussy cutting all that fabric would take f-o-r-e-v-e-r.  So I’ve been just looking at it and wondering what to do with it all.

Now I have a purpose for this fabric!  My Cheater’s Sampler quilt!  It’s going to be fun to decide which prints work best in which spaces on the quilt. I can cut some blocks so the stripes are vertical and others so they are horizontal. I can fussy cut from different parts of the fabric to create totally different blocks.

And I’m quite sure I’ll use muslin for the sashing. Just not sure if I’ll use unbleached or bleached.

If you have not started planning your Cheater’s Sampler quilt yet, you still have plenty of time! You can print the quilt pattern and get all the block sizes then spend endless hours trying to decide what you’d like to use for fabric. Oh, and be sure you change your mind 100 times and to even lose sleep over this decision. lol

And don’t worry if you don’t have a bunch of different fabric prints. You could totally make this entire quilt using just ONE print!  One print and sashing. I bet that would be beautiful with all the different size blocks. But if you want more variety, 3 or 4 prints might be enough.

I might not use all the fabric prints in the image. But that’s the pile I’ll be picking through.  I also have a bunch of that type of fabric with kid themed prints. Maybe that can be a whole other quilt!

And no promises, but I’ll have a bunch of this fabric left over. Like tons of it.  Maybe, just maybe, after my vacation… key word here is MAYBE I can cut some for quilt kits. Maybe. I’d love to do that.

If you want to get caught up on this series, please watch Episode 1 where I explain it all.  Episode 2 of this series will be up Saturday night, 1/11/20. That’s assuming I can record as planned. I have not started yet. Yikes! lol
