My Coupon Addiction

Hello!  It’s me, Darlene!  Welcome to my blog!

If you think clipping coupons is a big waste of time, I’m here to convince you that you are wrong!  I was once the biggest skeptic. No one was going to convince me that I could save money with coupons.  After all, coupons are all for brand name items and even with a coupon, they still cost more, right? Wrong again!

I started couponing in May of 2011. I was prompted to give it a try when I read this blog post over at I Love to Gossip. That post, dated May 20, 2011, told me that I could get free Vlasic relish at Shaw’s.  Hmmmm… my mother loves relish. I love free!

I printed 4 coupons using my 2 computers then I ran to the store.  I was sure I’d come home empty handed. I just didn’t see how it could possibly work!   The relish was indeed on sale for $1 each.  The coupons were for 55¢ off.  I bought four jars and sure enough, after the coupons doubled, I got four jars of relish for FREE!

But, that was only four jars of relish. Surely I was not going to go far on that. I drove home happy, just the same.  And I checked Chrystie’s blog several times a day. There always seemed to be more coupons, more great deals. Wacky Mac for pennies a bag. Raisin Bran for 59 cents a box. Salad dressing just 25 cents each. In a very short time, I had a pantry full of food.  It soon spilled over to a bedroom.

That’s how I started couponing. It all started with relish!

I have couponing again for about 2 1/2 yrs now and I truly love bring home free things and paying much less than most. I enjoy it when folks notice me shopping and they ask to see my binder and how I do it. I have been following your site for several months now thanks to a couple of Shaws managers that asked me if I used your site. I have given anyone who asks me, about what you do and suggest that they find you on FaceBook. I have a question for you. How do you sort/file your coupons so that you know where to find them. Do you also use a binder type system? I started with a small cheap 1 inch binder and very quickly found out that it was much too small. I am on my second 3 inch Case IT zippered one. Ever have all your coupons dump out on to the floor? It isn’t pretty…… Anyway thanks for all the hours of work you do to help all of us out. Sincerly Jan Mullen Litchfield Maine.

I must admit, I hate binders! I used a binder for maybe a month then quickly switched over to a box with envelopes. After 2 years, I still use this system! I’m to the point now that I have very few coupons to file. I print only what I know I will use or a few other good ones that I think I might use. Then I order only the exact insert coupons that I need from the coupon clippers. Not a fan of binders at all! lol

    Hey Darlene!

I’m a new fellow Maine coupon queen in the making!!! Thank you so much for all of your helpful information. It’s very helpful and wow, this is a really fun obsession! I used to be a huge skeptic, as you yourself were. My sister talked me into trying it out and WOWSERS ~ I’m stocking up on things and saving money! Who-da-thunk-it?!

    Thanks again!
