Wilcoxson’s ice cream coupon gets better with age
from billingsgazette.com
Twenty-six years after giving birth to her second son, Kevin, Mary Frances Ruffatto discovered a yellowed and tattered coupon good for a complimentary gallon of vanilla ice cream from Wilcoxson’s Ice Cream in Billings.
It made her smile as she reminisced about the day she brought home the infant. The mailbox was filled with coupons and fliers that included offers for everything from diapers to baby rings.
Caught up in the chaos of endless feedings and diaper changes, the young mother never cashed it in. She tucked it away in her purse, then changed handbags. For nearly three decades the certificate got shuffled from one “little pile of things” to another.
“I save everything,” Ruffatto said with a laugh. “It’s just so much fun when you find old things. They are just such treasures.”
Just for the heck of it, she called Wilcoxson’s with a strange question: “Do you still redeem these?”
The woman who answered the phone didn’t miss a beat: “Yes!”
“It was so much fun when I called,” Ruffatto said. “It was amazing. They were so kind and gracious.”
So, to celebrate his 26th birthday, Kevin Ruffatto and his mother cashed in the coupon for some cookie dough ice cream.
