Christmas Challenge update and why I’m sad about it

I use affiliate links in some of my posts. I may earn a commission if you use my links. Full disclosure.

I am sooooo sad about my Christmas Challenge!  I have been buying gifts for Skylar assuming I’ll have her again this December for a few weeks like I did last December. But then it hit me… she is starting school this year!  The only way I could have here here in December is for just a few days, and it takes 3 round trip tickets to bring her to Maine. A few days is just not long enough. So, I may have to fly to Memphis to celebrate Christmas with her.  That’s fine and dandy, but it sure puts a dent in the way I’ve been shopping!

I will still be buying my 4 donation items for Christmas each month, but as for Skylar’s gifts, I’ll either have to ship them, have them shipped direct, or pack them and take them with me if I make it there in Dec. I’m very limited now to what I can buy!  I’ll make it work.

So, what have you been up to with the Christmas Challenge?  Been getting anything good?  I have gifts wrapped and waiting!  I might do those gifts with Skylar when I have her in July.  Hey, that sounds like a plan!

I’m not giving up on this challenge.  I just got sad for a little bit 🙁

You can still get in on this Christmas Challenge!  Read about it here!

UPDATE: Your comments below have completely inspired me to do Christmas in July… with a tree, even!  And since it will be summer, I can buy her a bike!!! I’m happy, happy now!

ANOTHER UPDATE:  We have something new that just came in my email! Walmart’s Value of the Day.  I have not checked it out yet, but hey, it’s a sign that we need to keep shopping! lol I’m going to check it out now.

ONE MORE UPDATE: I checked out the Value of the Day Walmart page and I like it! After you go to Value of the Day, you will see a little drop down menu on the left with all the links to their “values” like Clearance, Rollbacks, more!

Don’t forget… if you shop online, always go through Ebates first so you can earn cash back!!!

I have all my Large Christmas recyclable bags filled for my nieces and nephews with all the essential Personal items ready to go. I have several items including a few Mr. & Mrs potato heads for donations and for my new great niece along with a few other things for her put a side. Cleaned up on easter stuff for next year. Got 4 Free Razors for the men in my life and 3 Spanish learning pads for my daughters younger sisters put away. So really ahead of the game =) Thanks for the Challenge <3ing it

There is nothing you could do in December that you can’t do in July…except of course have the snow…LOL

I agree that Christmas in July sounds like a fun idea, I would also add, that a week or more that Skylar can spend with her grandmother in December is worth far more than that time spent in kindergarten!! 🙂

  • Christmas in July is a wonderful idea. My daughter, now an adult, has had a half Birthday party for years. Her Birthday is in December and she always wanted it to be in the summer. Much more fun for a party. ( She still has a half birthday and she’s 43 now.)

  • Christmas in July sounds like a great idea!! I’m not participating in the Christmas challenge, but I have found some great items on clearance at Target! A giant Angry Birds pillow that my son will ADORE!!! And Perry the Platypus slippers at Walmart for $4! A few more gifts and my big boy will be done!

Do a Christmas in July, put up the tree, decorate the house and have homemade cookies. She will just love it and so will you and your mom. Sounds like a plan!!

You know, we have a small 3 ft tree in the basement that is already put together. I will bring that up! And yes, Christmas in July!!!
