Please remember that I don’t eat this stuff so I did not make this recipe. I’m just posting so you can try it!

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup butter, softened (not margarine)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
(see tips below)

DIRECTIONS:

1:  Beat softened butter and granulated sugar in large bowl with spoon until well mixed. Stir in flour until moistened, using hands to mix if needed (dough will be crumbly). Knead 5 to 10 times or until dough is smooth.

2:  Divide dough in half.  Shape each half into a log about 5 inches long by 2 inches in diameter.  Wrap dough logs tightly with plastic wrap. Refrigerate about 1 hour 30 minutes or until firm.

3:  Heat oven to 350°F. Unwrap 1 of the dough logs and cut into 1/2-inch slices. Place slices 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet, preshaping if necessary.

4:  Bake 12 to 14 minutes or until edges are set. Cool 2 minutes then remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack. Unwrap remaining dough log and repeat.

Darlene’s Tips:  You can decorate these as desired.  You can also roll the logs in sprinkles then wrap and chill. This will give you colorful edges of the cookies. Add a teaspoon of your favorite extract to the mix if you want.  You can also freeze the cookie logs to use later. Remove from freezer and let thaw just enough so that you can cut. Cutting while partially frozen is easier and won’t squish the shape of the cookies.
