A note about Black Friday and how I feel about it

I use affiliate links in some of my posts. I may earn a commission if you use my links. Full disclosure.

I’m really surprised that not one of my readers has asked me about Black Friday deals. Not one of you asked!  It makes me wonder if you are kind of like me… just don’t care about Black Friday one iota! LOL  Or, maybe you follow other blogs that post all the Black Friday deals so you got your fill elsewhere.

I have never been interested in Black Friday. NEVER! I don’t like the crowds. I don’t buy the kind of things that are on sale. I don’t even think the prices are all that cheap. I find if I wait until after Christmas, the deals are much better and the only long lines are in returns while the registers are open for me!

With that said, I did dabble in Black Friday twice in my life. Once was about 10 years ago and I hit Walmart and bought some small crock pots for $5 and a little coffee maker for $5 and a few other things. I spent about $50 total.  I bought those things because they were cheap, not because I needed them. No one in my family needed them. Those things are all in my cellar somewhere, still in the boxes.

Last year was my first Black Friday as a couponer. I hit CVS with my card and four other family member cards and spent 4.5 hours shopping and planning exactly how to roll over the ExtraBucks that I was getting. Yes, I got a couple of bags full of free stuff, all stuff I really didn’t need. I was just high from getting it.  Most of that stuff is in two bins in my stockpile and family members pick through it as needed.  I will not be stepping foot in CVS today.

So, those were my two attempts at Black Friday.  The first attempt I spent time and money on stuff I didn’t need. The second attempt I barely spent any money but I lost 4.5 hours of my life and still got stuff I didn’t need.  Sounds like a huge waste of time to me! LOL

If you are a big Black Friday fan, just remember that you are not getting a bargain if you are spending money on stuff you do not need or would normally never buy.  And there is no law saying you can’t wait until after Christmas (when stuff is even cheaper!!!) to buy Christmas gifts!

Today I will be posting my everyday food deals. If I happen to see fantastic online deals for toys or whatever, I will post those because I know most of us are shopping for Christmas, or we just like deals. It’s the after Christmas deals that I’ll really jump on!

As for Black Friday, I’m staying home, with the exception of hitting Shaw’s later for super cheap cat food for my neighborhood felines :O)

To those of you who love Black Friday, I hope you have an awesome day!

The more I read/learn about you, the more I realize we are a lot alike. 🙂 My husband and I stayed home today and cleaned out the flower garden. It was a beautiful day, and a good way to work off yesterday’s meal. I have no regrets for what I did today! 🙂

I am home today…hubby is working, has projects that have to get completed. I am so terrified of someone stepping on me. I walk fine today, but 3 or 4 years ago fell and broke everything in my right foot and ankle and had surgery along with plates and skrews to put it all back together. All toes were even broken, so very careful where I go, don’t need anyone stepping on my foot or accidentally kicking the ankle.

I don’t do Black Friday shopping either, I tried once about 15 years ago and after a bad experience with another customer I swore I would never do it again and have held true to my word. Just plain to many people. I don’t need or want the things they advertise anyway, I just don’t think it is very practical, I have better things to spend my money on.

Darlene I’m with you!!! I will be hitting up one store later today with my daughter.
Not because it’s Black Friday but it’s the only day we have together to get something
she wants. And it isn’t a big box store!!!! I like to buy small and local!!!

I am not a big fan of Black Friday either. When Filene’s used to give out $10 gift cards to the 1st 500, I used to take my son and my husband to wait in line. My son and I would then run out of the store and into another entrance to get 2 more cards. Our $50 would then be used to buy something really expensive that we really needed. I only did the running thing once; I felt too guilty to do it again.
I, too, do not like big crowds. When we had a Sear’s surplus store I would do the big sale for toys for my kids, but I would always partner up with some stranger in the store and we would help each other out. I would watch babies while mothers went down the aisles and brought things out. My kids would stay home with their Dad and I didn’t mind watching someone else’s kids. I didn’t have to go down the crowded aisles and I also didn’t have to bring those babies home with me, either.
