Cheesy Mice Rag Quilt Tutorial – Episode 1
I have a new Rag Quilt design for you! I am using one of my Cheesy Quilt panels in this quilt (for the A blocks) but you don’t have to. You can use whatever fabric you want and you can still follow the general design.
I will have the panels or a quilt kit available soon, hopefully by Episode 2.
PLEASE CONSIDER supporting my quilt designs by becoming a $1 patron! I spend a lot of time working on the quilt designs and I’d very much appreciate your $1 per month pledge so I can continue to offer these printable designs. The $1 level also gets you my daily free kindle book list. Thank you!
Below are all the sizes of the blocks for my design.
Each square on the grid is one inch
The black lines are where we will be snipping to rag the quilt
The cut sizes below allow for 3/4 inch seam allowances on all sides
All measurements are in inches and are listed “wide” x “tall”
Finished quilt will be about 36 inches wide by 45 inches tall
Block A – 13.5 x 14.5 – Cut 6 total, 3 for the front, 3 for the back.
Block B – 10.5 x 14.5 – Cut 12 total, 6 for the front, 6 for the back.
Block C – 4.5 x 40.5 – Cut 4 total, 2 for the front, 2 for the back.
Block D – 37.5 x 4.5 – Cut 4 total, 2 for the front, 2 for the back.
Playlist for this series. There is currently a new episode every Saturday night.

DIRECTIONS:
1: Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Grease and flour 15x10x1-inch or 13×9-inch pan, or spray with baking spray with flour.
2: In large bowl, gently mix dry cake mix, pie filling, eggs and chocolate chips with rubber spatula. Break up any undissolved cake mix by pressing with spatula. Spread in pan.
3: Bake 15x10x1-inch pan 23 to 27 minutes, 13×9-inch pan 29 to 34 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely, about 1 hour. Frost with frosting.

Darlene’s Tips: Want even more chocolate? Sprinkle with chocolate morsels after frosting. You can use any flavor cake mix or frosting. Strawberry or lemon would be delish! You could experiment with different pie fillings too. Apple pie mix with spice cake and cream cheese frosting sounds awesome! And there are eggs in this recipe so the mixes should stick and not just all fall apart. Experiment!

INGREDIENTS:
check for ingredient coupons here
1 cup sugar
1 cup butter or margarine
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
optional: 1/2 cup finely chopped nuts
(see my tips below)
See my Darlene’s Concoctions videos here!
DIRECTIONS:
1: Heat sugar, butter and water to boiling in heavy 2-quart saucepan, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to medium. Cook about 13 minutes, stirring often, until small amount of mixture dropped into cup of very cold water separates into hard, brittle threads. (Watch carefully so mixture does not burn.)
2: Immediately pour toffee onto ungreased large cookie sheet. If necessary, quickly spread mixture to 1/4-inch thickness. Immediately sprinkle with chocolate chips then let stand about 1 minute or until chips are completely softened. Spread softened chocolate evenly over toffee. Sprinkle with nuts if desired.
3: Let stand at room temperature about 1 hour, or refrigerate if desired, until firm. Break into bite-size pieces. Store in airtight container.
Darlene’s Tips: You can use any flavor morsels that you like. Butterscotch morsels would be delish. Or use a combo of morsels. You can also add sprinkles along with, or instead of, chopped nuts.

I woke up to 100K subscribers. I’d love to say I’m thrilled, but the honest truth is that this number signifies a very long and hard journey with youtube, 5.5 years of ups and downs. There have been many periods during that time when I wanted very much to quit. The stress of it all was just too much.
Putting yourself out there is not an easy thing to deal with. In fact, it’s brutal. So many of the creators I watched, many with over a million subbies, stopped producing content simply because they just could not take it any more. What I loved the most about how they left is that they did so with no apologies. They just said goodbye.
I’ve been following Amy Lynn Andrews for years (she’s a blogging guru). I still get her newsletter by email. In a recent one, she talked about “enougable,” a term she made up. Here is part of what she said:
“I admire people who recognize and embrace enoughable. They do, earn, eat, attain or grow. Then they declare enough. They could keep pushing forward but they don’t. They don’t care what people think, what “makes sense” or what they might miss. It’s like they breathe a contented sigh and move forward in peace and freedom.” – Amy Lynn Andrews
Without realizing it, I’ve been practicing “enoughability” over and over again during my 5.5 year run with youtube. I have often decided that something is enough. Even though I stick with youtube as my platform, I completely change what I am doing and I don’t care what people think or what makes sense or what I might miss. I just breathe a contented sigh and move forward, just like Amy said.
After reading what Amy said, I have confirmation that “enough” is not a cop-out. It’s a form of survival. I had enough of shoe dances. I had enough of hair videos. I had enough of holding up grocery items to a camera in walmart. I loved all those things for a while and that content served a moment-in-time purpose. Then it became enough.
The same will happen again and again. One day I won’t sew on camera. I won’t make quilts. I will not sell fabric. I will stop doing all these things, not because I failed, but because I succeeded to the point of it being enough.
Then I’ll start something else.
This is why I don’t look at 100K subscribers as something I need to cling to because it got me to where I am. Instead, I look at that number as something I need to be willing to let go of so I can get to where I want to go.
I’m simply no longer afraid to declare when something is enough. In fact, moving forward, I’d love to create more “that’s enough” moments. Those moments are very freeing.
A big thank you to all who have subscribed and also to those who watch some of my videos yet never subscribe (interesting fact: only 33% of my subscribers actually watch my videos, all the rest of my watch time comes from those who are not subscribed). You are all part of my journey up to this point.
I hope many of you will be interested in my future endeavors too. But I totally understand that most of you will at some point decide that you’ve had enough of me. lol And that’s okay. I get that.
Thank you to those from my past, my present and a thank you in advance to those who will enter my future. Thank you to my fans and to my haters. You are all an important part of this journey.

INGREDIENTS:
check for ingredient coupons here
2 cups) semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 lbs confectioner’s sugar
1 cup whiskey Jack Daniel’s whiskey (fudge is for adults only)
(see my tips below)
See my Darlene’s Concoctions videos here!
DIRECTIONS:
1: Line a 13x9x2-inch baking dish with parchment paper. Spray lightly with cooking spray and set aside.
2: Pour confectioner’s sugar in a large bowl. Pour a cup of Jack Daniel’s whiskey over sugar and whisk mixture well.
3: Place chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and melt according to package directions, or microwave at 30 second intervals, stirring between each interval, until fully melted.
4: immediately pour melted chocolate over sugar and whiskey mixture. Stir until all ingredients are blended.
5: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread the mixture evenly. Let the fudge set just until firm, about 30 minutes.
6: Lift fudge out of dish and cut into squares. Let fudge further set at room temperature for 60 minutes.
Darlene’s Tips: I bet you could use other liquor, like coffee brandy or amaretto. And flavored schnapps like peppermint or peach might work with white morsels. Experiment! Please note, the alcohol is not cooked off. This fudge is NOT for kids.
