Couponing for Newbies – What are the different types of coupons?

I use affiliate links in some of my posts. I may earn a commission if you use my links. Full disclosure.

What are the different types of coupons?

There are lots of different forms of coupons out there, but they break down to two types, manufacturer coupons and store coupons. Both manufacturer coupons and store coupons can come in the forms mentioned below. You can generally stack a store coupon and manufacturer coupon to get more savings!

Internet Printed Coupons: These are the coupons you print from your computer. You are typically limited to two prints per computer, but there are exceptions, such as PDF coupons will allow unlimited prints. You can see a list of just some of the sites where you can print coupons HERE.

Insert Coupons: These are the coupons from the inserts you find in your Sunday papers. The inserts include SmartSource, RedPlum, P&G, General Mills, and others. Sometimes stores like Target or Walmart have their own inserts.

Tear Pad Coupons: These are the coupons you find on display in your store. They come in the form of a pad and your tear them off!

Peelie Coupons: These are the coupons you find stuck to the packages. You peel them off to use them.

Hang Tag Coupons: These are the coupons you find hanging on items, such as soda bottles.

Stickie Coupons: These are coupons the store sticks on items, such as meat, to reduce the price for quick sale.

Catalina Coupons: These are the coupons that spit out along side your receipt at the register. Always read them because it might be for something good!

Digital Coupons: These are coupons that are attached to your store card, such as SavingStar and CellFire. Some offer instant savings while others give you refunds after your purchase.

Mobile Coupons: These are coupons that are attached to your phone. Since I have a dinosaur phone, I really know nothing more about mobile coupons.

Instant Savings: This is not an actual coupons, but a store savings that is deducted at the register. Usually you have to buy a certain number or items in one transaction to get the instant savings.

OYNO (On Your Next Order): These coupons usually come in the form of a Catalina. They are like money that you can use toward a future purchase.

Mail-In Rebates: To get these savings, you fill out a form and mail it in. You must do exactly what the form says to do and if you did it correctly, you will get a refund check in the mail.

I’m sure there are more forms of coupons out there, but these are the ones I can think of right now. If I missed some, let me know and I’ll add it to the list!

I’m not a good source for mobile apps because I don’t have a fancy phone! lol The only one I promote at this point is ibotta but I’ve never tried it.
