I’m sad to report that the catalina coupon at Shaw’s that is part of the National Pet Month is being triggered only if you meet the $15 and $25 minimum after coupons. This means it’s based on your out of pocket total, not purchase total. Big. Bad. Bummer.
I asked about this on Shaw’s facebook page because their fine print does not mention that it’s after coupons. I also tried to contact Catalina per Shaw’s request, but I got nowhere with them. I could not even talk to anyone because I did not have a receipt with required numbers (I didn’t do any of the deals). No receipt = No help. And Catalina was extremely rude.
Long story short (and there is a very, long, long story…lol), if you want the pet products catalina, you will need to spend $15 or $25 OOP. I’m not shy to say that I’m not a happy camper about the fact that this was not disclosed in the fine print. It’s a big, huge pain for bloggers when stuff is not disclosed! And that turns into a big, huge pain for shoppers who read the blogs only to be disappointed at the register!
If you already shopped for your pet products and you met the $15 or $25 purchase price before coupons, I would march right over to customer service and ask for your catalina refund. The stores are supposed to be putting up signs with new fine print, but if you shopped before knowing this most important info, you deserve to get the money back that you expected to earn!

What am I doing to avoid this mess next time? I will ask Shaw’s for specific details before I post deals that might have unexpected outcomes, like catalina deals. I can’t promise perfect outcomes, but please know that I never mean to send you out on a wild goose chase. I don’t like it when deals don’t work for me, but I hate it with a passion when the deals don’t work for you!
I also want to point out that sometimes we get unexpected GOOD results from Shaw’s, simply by asking a question. I noticed that the coupons that we cut from the flyer said “one coupon per customer” and that didn’t make sense since the coupon was acting like a “sale price” more than a coupon. It’s very vague, just says when you purchase “pet products” so that should include all pet products. You could always ask on Shaw’s facebook page to be sure.
