Here’s how I would handle the whole Shaw’s Competitor’s Coupons test run

As most of you know, I’ve been on “vacation” for the past 3 weeks.  I had my granddaughter with me in Maine and I just returned her to Memphis on Tuesday and arrived back in Maine on Wed night.  Let’s just say that I had an exhausting vacation, and what I need most now is another vacation! lol  But, instead of more time off to rest up, I’ll be throwing myself back into my blog.

Let’s start with a note about how I would handle using competitor’s coupons at Shaw’s. They are doing a test run where they are accepting competitor’s coupon now through 7/31.  At first they were saying practically any coupon would be accepted as long as Shaw’s carried the same item.  Now it seems they are not accepting certain coupons like coupons for craft stores, bedding stores, etc, even if Shaw’s might carry the same items.

One thing everyone needs to remember is that from the get go, Shaw’s said they can end this promotion at any time for any reason.  So, they are allowed to make whatever changes they want to make. I’m reading that some Shaw’s have stopped accepting the competitor’s coupons or at least limiting them. That’s their call.

Another thing everyone needs to remember is that no matter what you read or are told by others, there will be many differences by store.  This might be due to some stores just doing their own thing or might be due to them not reading the memos or lack of communication or forgetting what they have been told.  So what works for one might not work for another.

If I post Shaw’s deals using competitor’s coupons, I’m going to stick to easy deals with straight forward competitor’s coupons like Target or Whole Foods coupons.  As for % off entire orders (they will currently accept one per transaction) or basket coupons (stuff like $5 off $25 purchase, and you must meet the mim for each after all discounts), feel free to bring them with you, but I would ask whoever is working the front end before you shop if they will accept them because things can change at any moment!

Another thing you can do is ask questions on Shaw’s facebook page or read some other posts on their page.  They are getting bombarded with questions so it may take some time for them to reply.

I have not used any store coupons at Sanford Shaw’s at all since I’ve had zero time to shop, but when I picked up the flyer on Monday, I was told that if you use a basket coupon, like $5 off $25, you had to still be at $25 or more after using the $5 off $25 coupon, meaning you needed a min of $30 to use the coupon. That’s certainly not the way I interpret those coupons, and that might just be the way Sanford is doing it, or at least was doing it.  Like I said, your results may vary by store.  You may also get different results by cashier which is why I would ask the front end first.  Then if there is an issue, you can call them over.
