Louis B. Goodall Memorial Library

I just love, love, love libraries.  Always have, always will.  I hope libraries never disappear in my lifetime.  The ones I visit often, the Louis B. Goodall Memorial Library in Sanford and the Springvale Public Library in Springvale, seem to be thriving!

I want to do a shout out to my libraries and say Thank You for all the years of pleasure I have gotten by walking through your doors.  Free books to read. Free movies to rent.  Toys to play with (with my son and now my granddaughter) and puzzles to make. And when I was in school, I often did my homework in the library because in those days there we needed to look up stuff in actual books, not online.

You should visit your local library too!  One of the best things about libraries is FREE MOVIES!  I recently did my very first Redbox rental, and that got me in the mood to watch movies now and then. But I can get my hands on all I need at the library for free, and for long rental periods.  They usually have an eclectic group of titles for adults (I love the documentaries) and a huge variety for kids.

Goodall Library – Take out 2 DVDs per library tag and you keep them for 2 weeks.  Late fee is $1.00 per day after 2 weeks (I think there is a 1 day grace period), so don’t forget to return them!

Springvale Library – Take out 10 DVDs per member and you keep them for 3 weeks!  Late fee is $.50 per day after 3 weeks, no grace period.

Goodall Library also has Kindles you can take out for free, loaded with titles!  It’s a way of trying a Kindle before buying. I still have not tried it.  I love my good old-fashioned books too much to ever read a book on a device. Sorry, but I gotta have those paper pages!

Springvale Library has an awesome genealogy collection to help you trace your roots. I think it’s a blast to search through their massive collection of old newspapers (I found my birth announcement!). You can’t bring your purse in that room, so be prepared to leave it behind the main desk.

Thanks for this post. I am a Library Trustee and keep trying to get the word out. You have done a great service to those who don’t know the great things that can be found in the libraries today 🙂
