I just posted a deal where you can pick up Birds Eye Voila for only $.98 at Walmart. But, if you do the scenario below, you can pay just a bit more out of pocket but you will have more items!
Here’s the deal at Hannaford:
Transaction 1:
Buy (4) cans My Essentials tomato sauce at $.39 each, total $1.56
Pay $1.56 (use a $1.00 catalina to pay it down if you have one)
Get $1.00 catalina toward next purchase
Transaction 2:
Buy (1) Birds Eye Voila at $3.99
Buy (1) package Ramen Noodles at $.22
the ramen is to bring your final total over $1 so you can use your cat
Total is $4.21
Use (1) $3/1 Birds Eye Voila printable coupon
Also use your $1.00 catalina from previous transaction
Pay $.21
(you will not get another catalina)
Your total out of pocket is $1.78, and yes… that is $.80 more than you would pay at Shaw’s. But, with this scenario you are also getting 4 cans of tomato sauce and a package of Ramen! Therefore, you are paying just $.80 for those 5 items, so only $.16 each!

I just got back from Hannaford. I was going to do my little catalina run and I decided to test the self scan with 4 items. The catalina did not spit out!
I was told that we must go to a cashier. However, I know for a fact I did it at self scan last year, and at several Hannaford stores, and it worked like a charm. So, either this is something new, or it’s just Sanford, or the catalina was out of paper or something (but the green light was on) and the manager just assumed you can’t do it at self scan.
The good news is all I had to do was go to a cashier and she rang up the 4 items again, voided it so I did not have to pay, and I got my $1 cat.
As I have stated before, test your self scan with only 4 items. I still have a feeling self scan will work, at least at some other stores. Please let me know if the cat spits out at the self scan at your store!

Here is a little shopping trip I planned for you at Hannaford which you may or may not want to do. It’s impossible for me to see what you have in your pantry or stockpile, but maybe this scenario will give you some ideas.
Learn about the Hannaford Catalina Deal HERE if you are not already familiar with it.
Oh, I want to stress that the catalina will not work for produce, meat, deli, or anything that has a variable weight. It would work for something like Hannaford Hot Dogs that are pre-packaged since those don’t vary in weight.
Feel free to substitute! Just remember that your final price will not be the same.
Transaction 1:
Buy (8) cans My Essentials veggies, 8 oz, at $.45 each, total $3.60
Buy (8) cans My Essentials tomato sauce, 8 oz, $.39 each, total $3.12
Buy (8) boxes My Essentials macaroni & cheese, $.59 each, total $4.72
Buy (4) frozen My Essentials burritos, $.50 each, total $2.00
Buy (2) boxes Hannaford baking soda, $.59 each, total $1.18

Here’s what it looks like if you pick up 4 boxes of gelatin and 4 boxes of pudding for your stockpile:
Transaction 1:
Buy (4) boxes Hannaford Gelatin at $.59 each, total $2.36
Pay $2.36 (use previous catalinas to pay it down if you have some)
Get a $1 catalina coupon
Transaction 2:
Buy (4) boxes Hannaford Pudding at $.69 each, total $2.76

Pay $1.76

Hannaford is running their Hannaford & My Essentials catalina special early this year! Starting July 29 through August 18, you an earn money buying Hannaford and My Essentials items! In past years they ran this sale closer to Thanksgiving. Let’s hope they do it again then!
This is a very good deal to do, so pay attention, okay? Here’s how it works…
For every 4 Hannaford or My Essentials items you buy, you will get a $1 catalina coupon toward your next purchase. You can earn up to $10 in one transaction, meaning you can pick up 40 items at a time. If you pick up more than 40, you will still only get $10… so never buy more than 40 at once!
You must buy in groups of 4. If you buy 8 items, you will get $2, 12 items, $3, 16 items, $4 and so on.
Variable weight items do not count, such as meat, produce, seafood, bakery and deli. If you buy prepackaged items that do not vary in weight, that’s okay.
The best way to shop this deal is to only buy a few items up front, then start rolling over the catalinas. Here’s an example using the My Essentials yogurt.
Let’s say you want to stock up on 12 yogurts. This is a good way to do it:
Buy (8) My Essentials yogurts at $.50 each, total $4.00
Pay $4.00 at the register and get a $2.00 catalina
Then buy (4) more yogurts at $.50 each, total $2.00
Use your $2.00 catalina from previous transaction
Get these (4) for FREE
Total paid out of pocket for all 12 yogurts is $4.00 so only $.33 each plus you will get another $1.00 catalina for next time!
Of course, you do not have to do all your shopping in bits and pieces like that. If you don’t want to be at the store forever, and if you have lots of stuff to buy, I suggest you buy about 20 items to start, get your $5 catalina coupon, then buy 20 more and use the cat to pay it down. Then just keep going! Buy the least expensive items you can find to score the best deals!
This is an excellent time to stock up on canned goods!!! I still have plenty of canned goods from when they did this sale last year!
Here’s a canned veggie scenario for you:
Buy (20) cans My Essentials veggies, 8 oz, at $.45 each, total $9
Pay $9 at the register and get $5 catalina coupon
Then buy (12) more cans, 8 oz, at $.45 each, total $5.40
Use $5 catalina from previous transaction
Pay $.40 for those 12 cans
You get 32 cans total for $9.40 out of pocket, so only $.29 per can!
And you will get a $3 catalina toward next purchase!
TIP: Go to Hannaford’s site and plan your strategy. Do the math! Figure out the best scenarios! On their site you can sort by Private Label so you can see just the Hannaford and My Essentials items. You can also sort by price, low to high, so you can find the cheapest items. Since this catalina is based on how many you buy, not on price, you SAVE MORE MONEY by buying the cheapest items you can find! Stock up!
NOTE: you will see bloggers including the catalina in the first transaction to give you a “net” amount. I don’t do it that way because no matter what, you are paying out of pocket the first time around. Using the yogurt as an example, if you buy (4), you will pay $.50 each up front, so $2 for (4). I do not count the catalina that you get in that transaction and say that you are only paying $.25 each after the catalina. You would pay $.25 each for the next (4) after using the cat on those (then do an average for all), but you will always pay full price on the first transaction, no matter what you buy. Confused? You will learn as you go!

I have been meaning to tell you about the new Hannaford coupon that you can pick up at the butcher bar in the meat department… but I keep forgetting!
This coupon is good for $2 off any Meat Value Purchase of $5 or more!
Here’s what I know…
Meat Value Purchase pretty much means any package of meat that is $5 or more.
You can also use it on multiple packages as long at the total value is $5, provided you get a cashier who understands the wording (it states meat value purchase, not meat value package)
You can use the coupon with a peelie coupon, however, if you buy meat and only meat, the total needs to be $5 after you scan the peelie or the coupon will beep, at least at the self scan.
If you pick up a package of meat that is at least $5 and use a peelie that brings the total below $5, as long as you have something else in your cart to bring the total to over $5 after the peelie, the coupon will work. The coupon does not state that the actual meat value has to be $5 after coupons, so you’re good to go!
This coupon is good through October 31!
Here is a deal I did as an example:
Bought 1 package of round steak priced at $7.01 (I did not buy anything else). It had a $2 off peelie. After scanning the peelie (I was at self scan) the price went to $5.01. I was able to use the $2 off and got the meat for only $3.01… awesome!!!
