How I do laundry for 3 years on less than $5 for detergent

I use affiliate links in some of my posts. I may earn a commission if you use my links. Full disclosure.

I am so tickled with this laundry detergent deal that I got!  It all worked exactly as planned.  My Coupon Hunter had the coupons on her site, I ordered them, they came in time for the sale, and my CVS had stock!  I just love it when stuff like that happens!

I paid $4.62 for all the detergent you see and that includes tax.  They were on sale last week at CVS for $1.49 each and I had (5) coupons for $1/2 Xtra.  I also had some ExtraBucks that I used to pay it down. I used several CVS cards (mine, my mothers, my husbands) and on two of those cards I got $1 EB in return for using my Green Bag Tag, so I have $2 left to spend!

I s-t-r-e-t-c-h my laundry detergent to make it last longer by using my borax booster method (see that laundry tip HERE). That means those 10 jugs you see will really be like 40 jugs.  We don’t do much laundry, so this is enough detergent for the next 3 years.  And since I still have 4 or 5 jugs in my stockpile, I’m set for a long time!

I hope by showing you some of the deals I get, I can help turn newbies on to couponing. I’ve been couponing for just over a year now and the amount of money I save is shocking.  Shocking!  I was one of those skeptics that swore it could not be done, then with the help of one blogger in particular… I did it!  I know I have not thanked her in a long time, but I owe is all to Chrystie Corns over at I Love to Gossip. Thank you CC!

My Swiss Tea Treasure Find at Shaw’s

I use affiliate links in some of my posts. I may earn a commission if you use my links. Full disclosure.

I meant to post this the other day but forgot.  I found this Swiss Tea in reduced dairy this past Thursday, at least I think it was Thursday.  Yes!  It was Thursday because I remember that my Swiss Tea Coupons were expiring on that day and I could not believe my eyes when I spotted the tea!

The Swiss Tea was marked down to $.60 each and my coupons were for $.55/1 Swiss Tea.  After the coupons doubled, I made $.50 on each half gallon!  I got a total of $2.00 overage on my other items.  I can’t remember what else I got, but I know it was a good little run and I paid only $.06 total for all I got.

My only concern is that front jug of tea.  Why is some missing?  I did not drink any! I see the bottle is a bit crushed so my thinking is that maybe I put the watermelon on it in the car and I squished it?  Oh well, all I know is I’m a lousy photographer to have not noticed that until after I took the pic! LOL

I got all this stuff for only 43 CENTS and that includes tax!

I use affiliate links in some of my posts. I may earn a commission if you use my links. Full disclosure.

I walked around Walmart today and picked up some little freebies just for fun. I was sad that I could not find any Rayovac batteries for $.97. They had plenty the other day, but the battery display was nowhere to be found… and I asked, and searched and asked again and searched some more. No biggie! I’m not anywhere near close to being short on batteries :O)

I don’t know if any of the coupons I used are still available. I’m giving you the links in case you want to check.  If you shop at Sanford Walmart, the Spectracide and candles are in the garden center and they have plenty left. Lots of dental floss too!

I bought this stuff…
(2) Spectracide Bug Stop at $2.88 each
(1) Spectracide Wasp Killer at $2.97
(1) Spectracide Weed Stop at $2.97
(4) Cutter Citronella Candles at $.97 each
(4) Reach Dental Floss at $.97 each
I use these coupons…
(4) $3/1 Spectracide coupons
(4) $1/1 Cutter coupons
(4) $1/1 Reach coupons
Total was $19.46 + $.97 = $20.43
After coupons I paid only 43¢

Bug spray is something I have been wanting to stock up on since I started couponing but never found a deal until now!  I can’t believe I got FREE cans of bug spray and FREE weed killer too!  The weeds in my yard are beyond repair, but maybe I can kill those suckers that grow in the cracks of the cement walkway and driveway!

Watch for $3 OFF Watermelon Coupon at Shaw’s – Almost FREE Watermelon!

I use affiliate links in some of my posts. I may earn a commission if you use my links. Full disclosure.

I can’t believe I finally spotted what I thought was a beer rebate at Shaw’s… but it was better! It’s an outright coupon!!!

I found this coupon next to the cut watermelon in the Sanford Shaw’s.  It says save $3 instantly off the purchase of any watermelon (minimum $3.01 watermelon purchase). It makes you think you should also buy beer, but it states “no beer purchase required!”

I picked up 2 cuts of watermelon ($1.52 and $1.56) that came to a total of $3.08.  I paid only 8¢ after the coupon!

If you can’t find this coupon at your Shaw’s, I picked some up to give away!  I will have a little random giveaway in a day or two, so please keep watching!

Lookie what I bought for 24 CENTS at Shaw’s

I use affiliate links in some of my posts. I may earn a commission if you use my links. Full disclosure.

I just got back from Shaw’s where I scored a superb deal! The Sabra hummus is on sale this week for $2.79 each. Even though the ones in reduced had a price of $4.29, they rang in at $2.79.  Each one had a $2.00 peelie on them.  And I had coupons too!  I knew I’d get an overage, so I picked up the little milks in reduced to absorb the overage. Here’s how it worked:

I bought…
(6) Sabra Hummus (reg $4.29) on sale for $2.79 each
(3) Garelick Chug Milk in reduced for $.50 each
I used…
(6) $2 OFF peelies on the hummus
(6) $1/1 Sabra Hummus (looks like it’s still available)
Final price was only $.24 for everything!

At regular price that hummus alone would have cost over $25.  But I got everything for less than a quarter!!!  And yes, you can freeze hummus :O)

Lookie what I just got at Shaw’s for 9 CENTS!

I use affiliate links in some of my posts. I may earn a commission if you use my links. Full disclosure.

I just got back from picking my mother up at my sister’s and I asked if I could swing by Shaw’s on the way home to check reduced dairy.  Last night I saw some reduced creamers during this shopping trip and I wanted to kick myself because I knew I had just received an email with a coupon attached but I had not printed (I actually got two emails, one for me, one for hubby).  I printed the coupons this morning (on two computers) and thought I’d take a chance that they still had creamer… and they did!

They also had the big jugs of Gold Peak Tea in reduced marked down to $1.00 each!  I have been holding the Gold Peak coupons for like forever and today was my lucky day, especially since my coupons expired today!

I knew I’d have an overage so I planned accordingly.  Here’s what I got and how I got it so cheap!

I bought
(4) International Delight marked down to $1.00 each
(3) Gold Peak Tea marked down to $1.00 each
(1) Over the Moon milk marked down to $1.72
(1) Oakhurst milk marked down to $.50
I used
(4) $.55/1 International Delight (not sure the link will work for you)
(3) $.75/1 Gold Peak Tea (NLA) (you don’t pay bottle deposit in reduced)
the coupons all doubled and gave me the overage
the tax did its unexpected funny thing and subtracted $.23
I paid a total of 9¢ for everything!
And even though I did not pay the bottle deposit, I can return them and get 15¢ back!

My itty bitty shopping trips to CVS and OSJL – Spent $1.78

I use affiliate links in some of my posts. I may earn a commission if you use my links. Full disclosure.

Geez… after spending just $.36 at Shaw’s tonight, these little trips to CVS and Ocean State Job Lot almost make me think I spent too much money!

I don’t know if the coupons for the FREE body wash are still available, but I discovered that even though the body wash is $2.27, I got the full $3 off so it gave me an overage on the candy bars.

First let’s start with OSJL, ’cause this one is easy:

I bought (2) packages Chinet napkins at $1.00 each
I used (2) $1/1 Chinet (NLA)
Final price was FREE, just paid $.10 tax

As for CVS, I used 4 cards and did 4 identical transactions:

I bought (1) body wash at $2.27
I bought (2) Dove at $.75 each
I used (1) FREE body wash coupon (got full $3 off)
I used (1) $.50/2 Dove Chocolate Singles Bars printable coupon
I paid $.42 including tax
I also got $.75 ExtraBucks for future purchase

I did this 4 times on 4 cards so my total OOP at CVS was $1.68, but I got a total of $3 back in ExtraBucks plus $1 back on one card for my Green Bag Tag.

My grand OOP total at both stores was $1.78 and I’ve got $4 to spend at CVS. So, I guess that’s not too shabby!

My little shopping trip at Shaw’s… all this for 36 CENTS!

I use affiliate links in some of my posts. I may earn a commission if you use my links. Full disclosure.

I got super duper lucky tonight at my Sanford Shaw’s.  I headed out to use up the coupons for all the freebies Shaw’s gave us this week… the cheese, pasta sauce and popsicles.  I also had coupons for free creamer. The other coupons I had made items free plus some gave me an overage.

But here’s the thing… I got overages on the cheese and pasta sauce too.  I had a feeling I might, because my Shaw’s generally just enters the max allowed on the coupon, meaning if something is free up to $3.00 and you buy something that is $2.50, you usually get the full $3.00 deducted so you get the overage.

Here’s the other thing… they were all out of American cheese, so they substituted for any cheese. I was given the choice to either pick a different American cheese or I could pick a different Dietz and Watson cheese.  I picked 4 different flavors of Dietz and Watson. When I got handed the packages, I noticed they were way under the $7.99 max because some of them were on sale and because I stressed that I’d rather have them be under a pound than over a pound.

The Ragu was priced at $2.25, and the coupon was for up to $2.99. I figured I might get the overage for those too and starting thinking I better grab something big in case I get a huge overage. I grabbed a bag of adult undies for my mother which were on sale and I also had a coupon for them (there are tear pads for Equaline near the incontinence items).

Off to the register! Sure enough, my cashier entered the max allowed on all my coupons for FREE items!  I almost went blind when I saw something like an $9+ overage. I had him scan the bag of adult underwear and the coupon for those.

I got…
30 yogurts
4 jars pasta sauce
4 boxes pasta
4 boxes popsicles
4 pounds carrots
4 pounds cheese (little less)
4 cans dog food
2 powder creamers
1 bag adult underware

My final total was 36¢

And I got a $4 catalina in return for my next shopping trip! I assume the cat was from the Ragu, as many are reporting they got a $4 cat when they bought 4 jars of Ragu at once.

I’m sorry I’m not breaking this down, but my brain is just too fried. There are no coupons left for the cheese, Ragu or Popsicles. The Mueller’s and yogurt sales are over now. I got the dog food coupon at the coupon center. The coupons for free creamer came by snail mail.  You can still score some free carrots with this Earthbound Farm coupon.

My Shoppin Trip at Shaw’s Tonight – 22 Items for $4.14

I use affiliate links in some of my posts. I may earn a commission if you use my links. Full disclosure.

I was too tired to set up for a photo shoot, so I will just describe my shopping trip at Shaw’s tonight.

I did two identical transactions but I’m lumping all into one for the sake of making it easy.  Just split it all in half and those are the two transactions:

I bought this stuff
(8) boxes Mueller’s pasta on sale for $1.00 each
(6) Stonyfield Yogurts on sale for $.60 each
(4) Cabot Cream Cheese in reduced dairy for $.75 each
(2) dozen eggs in reduced dairy for $1.25 each
(2) big bags cole slaw in reduced produce for $1.00 each
I used these coupon…
(8) $.55/1 Mueller’s (all doubled, 2 transactions)
(2) $2/3 Stonyfield
(2) $1/2 Cabot

After coupons (and after it subtracted $.16 tax) I paid only $4.14!  That works out to only $.19 per item!
